Hello conductor!

If we haven't met, my name is Dr. Michael Carney and I am a college professor and conductor of choirs, bands and orchestras.

My favorite topic is conducting because when you understand conducting, you will be able to experience the joy of shaping music with your hand gestures, facial expressions and leadership.

This is an incredible "super power" which is very difficult to learn on your own.

I created "The Art of Conducting" course to teach everyone how to become a great conductor.

With these skills, you will be able to stand up in front of any ensemble and make the music much more beautiful, expressive, powerful and meaningful.

-Michael

Testimonials

Dr. Mike's "Art of Conducting" course is outstanding.  It came just at the perfect time for me to regain my conducting skills after years of not using them.  The weekly lessons helped me to review and build on past conducting study and validated my belief in myself as a conductor.  They also freed me to express myself more authentically while still observing the rules. Lessons were well-prepared and relevant, built on solid fundamental concepts and areas of interest among the students.  The practice activities in and out of class provided meaningful challenges to develop my conducting abilities.  Dr. Carney created a safe environment where I felt comfortable showing up, practicing my skills and receiving helpful, constructive feedback. I know that I am a better conductor for having taken this course, and I am motivated to continue practicing, learning and growing so I can serve my choir to the best of my ability.  -Jaime

The ‘Art of Conducting’ course is ideal for conductors who have minimal to no formal conducting training and want to get better at their craft. For myself, the course helped establish good foundational conducting skills and provided strategies that I could immediately apply to rehearsals and performances. Mike’s conducting experience and expertise shines through in the course in a very accessible stay, and I particularly appreciated how he stayed beside all the learners through our individual learning journeys. His strong liturgical knowledge was also particularly helpful to me as a Catholic choir director.  -Edmar
